When you make the monumental shift from employee to entrepreneur (Congratulations!!), there are so many things people don’t tell you. But don’t worry, I am here for you.

Below I’ve collected a few of my TOP mindset shifts you will go through as an entrepreneur and how to make the most of them for your growth.

I have also included a few journaling prompts to help you out here too. Don’t think too hard when these questions pop up, just write from the heart and see what comes up! Let’s get started…

1. Trust Your Gut Learn to harness your intuition. This is so integral to your business and you’ll realise as you grow, you will become more and more reliant on this superpower.

Stick with me here. You know when you get that feeling in your stomach, or that voice in your head that screams YES (or NO for that matter), but there is no logical explanation to why? THAT is your intuition. Develop it, trust it, and you will begin to see shifts in yourself and your business.

Journal prompts for developing your intuition – write the first thing that comes to mind:

What or who do you need stop working on or with in your business right now?

Where in your business do you want to develop?

2. Put Yourself First

Carve out time for yourself, whether that is reading a book you love, going for a walk, exercise, cooking yourself and family a beautiful meal.

Self-love and self-care are SO integral to your success as an entrepreneur. Growing a business is stressful sometimes! So, think about it. Do things that bring you joy, align you to your true self…which in turn will relax you and give you the headspace to be creative and come up with new ideas.

I can assure you, some of your best ideas will come to you while you’re watching your favourite TV show or reading a book, relaxing. Journal prompts:

What brings you the most joy?

How can you make more time for that today?

3. Give Value Every Chance You Get You are an entrepreneur because you have seen a gap in the market, a need that you can help to fill. You have expertise and skills. You have something to offer the world! This is AMAZING.

Give value as often as possible. You are a font of knowledge, but sometimes it can be difficult to know what parts of your knowledge are worth sharing. Having a niche is a GREAT thing, so find your sweet spot and give as much value, advice and tips as you can!

Something that comes naturally to you, can be very challenging for others, so take advantage of your natural skill. You may not even realise you are GREAT at something, so ask a friend or fellow entrepreneur for their thoughts.

Valuing yourself is important here too – by valuing yourself, you know to share your knowledge just enough to help others, but not too much that you end up over giving for free.

Top tip:

Carry out a survey with your target market. Ask 7-10 questions maximum about what transformation your product or service can offer. This will help you tailor your amazing skills and products to give customers what they want and need! Journal Prompts:

What can I do with ease?

Where or who am I over giving to?

4. Define Your Version of Success

Take the time to figure out what this looks like for you. Make time to write this down. What does this look like for you, now you are completely in control of your career? The version of success you used to measure yourself against is no longer relevant or valid. Winning that one client is so much more fulfilling. Helping someone becomes the measure of success.

Every single entrepreneur’s version of success will look unique. Because you are irreplaceable. Because the way you love yourself, honour your creativity and value yourself is unique.

Whatever your version of success looks like, own it. It won’t be the same as someone else’s, and that is a great thing.

Here are a few journal prompts for you, write these with the 6 month timeline in mind: What do I want to see improve in my business? What do I want to do less of in my business? What do I want to do more of in my business?

In an ideal world, what does my life look like in 6 months’ time?

5. Accept You Are on a Different Path

This one requires ongoing work (as all things do!). Moving from employee to entrepreneur is a huge shift. You will go from being a specialist in one thing, as an employee, to a social media manager, salesperson, product developer, accountant, designer and everything else your business needs from you, as an entrepreneur! It is an amazing and challenging ride. It’s your path and it is likely to be completely different to those people who surrounded you when you were living your employee life.

Ensure you surround yourself with the right people. Great friends who support you are invaluable, as well as other entrepreneurs who you can share the ride with you too.

It can be difficult too; you may find yourself growing distance from friends or contacts you’ve had for years. It’s ok. You are growing, and that is a good thing.

Sometimes it can be lonely carving your own path, but with the right community, entrepreneurship will be so much more rewarding than you ever expected.

Accept you are made for a different path – this doesn’t mean one path is better or worse, just different and it’s the right one for you! Journal prompts: What am I resisting in my business?

Who is there to support me in my business? Where can I remove any toxicity in my business and life for the better?

I hope you found all of these mindset shifts helpful – if you have any other things to add, please do share them with me! If you want to chat to me and see how I can help you, book a free 15 minute catchup here! I’m so proud of you on your journey! Keep going, you are doing amazing!
